Hemp oil for dogs? Good news, animal lovers. Ned’s full spectrum hemp oil is not just for humans—it’s great for human’s best friend as well. Dogs, cats, people, or anything with a natural system can benefit from Ned’s hemp oil derived from organically grown hemp.
Currently, the Food and Drug Administration’s rules prevent us from telling you explicitly that our full-spectrum hemp oil can diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease in humans, canines, or felines. However, we can share with you what our happy Ned customers’ pups are reporting:
Pet Owners Lead the Way
As it turns out, formal veterinary research seems to be lagging slightly behind pet owners’ desire to improve the lives of their furry friends. A survey published in the Journal of the American Holistic Veterinary Association reported that 64.3% of dog owners and 66% of cat owners believe that hemp products helped their pets “either moderately or a great deal.”
“I purchased this for my 9 year old chocolate lab who has trouble with his hips. This is the second brand of hemp oil we’ve tried for him … and it does wonders for him.”
“This was recommended by a friend for our Yorkie who no longer tolerates riding in a vehicle and it works wonders. No more deep panting & whining, she just sits and relaxes again like she has done for 10 years.”
Like Carrie and Shelley, the dedicated dog owners in the study used these products for conditions such as canine seizures, cancer, anxiety, and arthritis. Cat owners indicated that they were trying to help their feline friends through cancer, anxiety, and arthritis.
How does Full Spectrum Hemp Oil Work for Dogs and Other Pets?
While currently there is no formal, published study that shows how hemp oil affects dogs or cats, science has shown that compounds, such as those found in hemp oil, interact with the natural receptors located in the central and peripheral nervous systems. These systems work to maintain homeostasis in the body, keeping it balanced and healthy.
Due to this lack of formal research about the clinical use in veterinary medicine, veterinarian proponents of hemp look to anecdotal evidence of effectiveness, or they extrapolate from human medicine. Fortunately for us pet owners, there is growing scientific interest in the therapeutic potential of hemp to treat illnesses in animals.
In 2018, the American Veterinarian reported that there is promise in viewing the natural systems as a “therapeutic target” during central nervous system inflammation in dogs. In addition, the journal also provided consumer guidelines for how to choose the best products for your pets.
Top of the list is to ensure that the hemp oil is third-party tested and its company provides a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for each batch of product.
Here at Ned, we agree wholeheartedly. We are committed to transparency and provide COAs for each product batch. You can learn how to read them here to ensure your beloved family pet is ingesting pure, clean, healthful oil.
Which Ned Products are Best for Pets?
We recommend that you use our Ned full spectrum hemp oil for practical reasons—the fur can prevent absorption of a topical. The 300mg bottle is a good place to start for your pets.
As far as dosing, you can start at 1mg for every 10 pounds of your pet's weight and dose one to two times per day. You can dose up or down depending on how it seems to be working. To get the full benefits of the hemp oil, it is best to squirt it directly into your pet’s mouth. If this is not an option, you can mix it directly into their food or favorite treat.
In addition to active compounds, our Ned 300mg Full Spectrum Hemp Oil is loaded with a broad spectrum of natural nutrients, such as terpenes, flavonoids, and trichomes. Check with your vet, try it out on your furry friend, and let us know how it goes!
